Cheap Ass Dinners#1

That's right --cheap ass dinners for you to pinch some pennies. I may post more Foodie Frugal Friday's but Cheap Ass Dinners are all about the winding down after a long week--so it is as little cooking as possible!

You know the scenario--it's Friday, about 6:30. You just spent the last hour sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. You had a crappy week and all you wanna do is go home, plop on the couch, watch some netflix and relax. But you gotta pick the kids up and take 'em somewhere. One has a basket ball game and another needs to supplies for some damn project that you just KNOW are gonna end up completing at midnight on Sunday. Because  they lost interest and ended up playing on the Xbox all weekend. Add to this the laundry , dishes and all the other crap you have to take care of  between now and Monday morning.

You need to grab a bite to eat, but feel guilty for thinking of drive through--especially when the kids say, "Aww mom, burgers again?!" That's when you realize there has to be something quick, tasty and easy on the pocket book.

Well Aldi's has a great take and bake pizza $4.99 for a 16 inch pizza. I prefer the cheese pizza.  Great flavor, good sauce and a decent crust. You would pay $16.99 at most pizza joints. Plus you get to feel a little better about baking and serving  it instead of delivery.

Add to this a bag of ready to go salad mix (also from Aldi's) for $1.69

Yup that's right-- $6.68 for pizza and salad (add a  another dollar for a bottle of dressing if you don't have any in your fridge).With dinner this cheap you could spurge on ice cream for dessert! This feeds a family of 4 quite well or totally pig out and have leftovers if it is just a two person household. From fridge to table in about 20 minutes--no drive through needed! And with the money you are savings, I would add it to the mad money fund, 'cause you never know when you you are gonna find the perfect pair of shoes--on sale of course, HA!

Say Goodbye

A week ago today we had to say goodbye to one our beloved pets.

Wussie-cat had been with us since she was about 4 weeks old. Some of you were introduced to her here and those of you who are family or close personal friends met her a long time ago. She was a few months past 18 years old. I am told by many this is a long lived for a cat. Regardless of their time with us-- it still hurts.

Unfortunately I don't have  a great number pictures of Wussie-cat because they are all pretty much a blur. She was such a bundle of energy! She lived up to her name because it was seldom she was seen by anyone other than close family.

She loved the Hubbs the best. He always joked she was the best dog because she would come running when you whistled and she would play fetch with aluminum foil ball or a crumpled cigarette pack. Originally her name was Pixie because she was so tiny--but because she was afraid of everything her name ended up being changed to Wussie-cat. The hubbs even had a little song for her he made up for her.

Even as a full grown cat she never weighed much over 5 pounds. She was always very petite and was often mistaken for a kitten.  She would often climb up the hubb's pants leg and then make her way to his shoulder where she would sit , although not for long. There wasn't a cardboard box, tote, basket or crate she didn't love! She was always finding little places to hide.

She had ninja claws of doom though! You didn't want to be on the receiving end of those! My favorite memory is when she made our 90 (plus) pound dog back out of the bed room--peeing from being scared-- (and she was all of maybe 3 pounds at the time). We almost peed ourselves laughing so hard.

I really miss her Meeer-wow and her obnoxiously loud purring. We were lucky to have in our lives for so long and gave her the best life we could.  I just hope when she crossed the rainbow bridge Kitty-bub and Gollie were there to meet her. And I hope she knows how much we loved her.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

To torment me, my dogs and my cats!

And it is actually one rooster and one chicken and it  is the rooster from hell. He crows ALL day long. Non stop from first light until dusk. Don't get me wrong I like chickens--I think they're delicious, haha. I just don't like the obnoxiously loud crowing type. 

I assume my neighbor's kids left the pen open which is why they are out meandering.I can just imagine the clucking conversation..."Hey let's go torment this lady and her animals"

"I will move a little closer and crow even louder", says the rooster

"Are you looking at me?" 

My cats and dogs were going haywire when they saw him in the yard. He hung out around my bird feeder and ate what I had set out for the critters. Unfortunately my batteries died and that was the end of the pictures. We missed out on a chicken dinner last night as I decided to spare his life. Next time I won't be so benevolent.  Until next time evil rooster...
